Georgia Democratic Rep. Yasmin Neal Seeks State Ban on Vasectomies

Tit for tat

As the War on Women marches inexorably onward, Democrats are starting to fight back —  cheekily.

In Virginia, state Senator Janet Howell attached a “rectal probe” amendment to the Virginia State-Sanctioned Rape bill.  The amendment would have required men to have a rectal exam and a cardiac stress test before obtaining a prescription for erectile dysfunction medication.  (It failed to pass.)

In Oklahoma, Constance Johnson attached an “every sperm is sacred” amendment to the GOP’s Personhood bill.  The amendment would have construed any action in which a man ejaculates or otherwise deposits semen anywhere but in a woman’s vagina as an action against an unborn child. (Democrats voted to table the amendment in order to demonstrate that it was introduced in jest.)

And now Georgia Democrats are stepping up.   Continue reading

President Obama Sings Sweet Home Chicago with B.B. King (w/ video)

I’m going to need him to guest star on American Idol or something. These little snippets of PBO singing is just not enough for me!  MOAR SINGING is what the people want.

You’re welcome.

Yo, The Stimulus Worked — Thank You President Obama!

Common refrains from people who say it didn’t work:

  • But Obama promised that unemployment would be less than 8%. Horseshit on a stick. First, he didn’t “promise” a damn thing, if everything an incoming president says is turned into a “promise”, well then there has been a whole lot of promise breaking going on in our history. Second, the cautious prediction made during the transition was based on the numbers that the outgoing Bush administration was feeding the Obama team. They were flat out wrong and completely underestimated what was going on in our economy. Hey media, that’s called context. Buy some at the local C-store.

SNL Tackles the Birth Control Shenanigans with “Really!?” and Dana Loesch Stupidly Responds

In case you missed it.

Outstanding:

Ridiculous: Dana Loesch over at “Big Journalism” had her merry band of idiots fact-check Amy Poehler’s comment that “there are too many people” and attempts to disprove the statement by linking to studies demonstrating that birth and fertility rates have declined (as if Amy Poehler was making some sort of political statement about birth rates.)

Really?! Continue reading

Shorter Franklin Graham: Obama is Probably a Secret Muslim

Play that Funky Music

For the next nine months, we are going to be treated to 2008′s greatest hits. Everything from “Yes Man, He’s My Kenyan,” to “Goddamn America, The Jeremiah Wright Song,” to “Black Genocide, Don’t Do It,” to “Secret Muslims, Yes That’s What We Are” to “Mommas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Liberals Who Abort Babies,” to “My Sharia,” to “Half-Black is Too Black, But Not Black Enough,” to “Hawaii Ain’t No State I Ever Heard Of.”

Today on Morning Joe, Franklin Graham, son of television evangeloon Billy Graham, lifted up his voice and sang the Secret Muslim Song.

Apparently, Baby Graham doesn’t believe President Obama is a Christian, but rather some Christian-Muslim hybrid:

Graham, throughout the interview, repeatedly said he didn’t know if President Obama was a Christian.

“I asked him when he was running… how he came to faith in Christ. He said that he was working in the South Side of Chicago in the community and they asked him — the community — asked him what church he went to, and he said ‘I don’t go to church.’ They said, ‘If you’re going to work in the community, you have to join one of our churches.’ And of course, he joined Reverend Jeremiah’s church. So that’s what his answer to my question was.” Continue reading

Israel and Khader Adnan strike a deal; Adnan ends his hunger strike – quick update.

Word came out this morning that Khader Adnan has agreed to stop his hunger strike in exchange for being released by Israel on April 17 when his period of administrative detention is up, with a promise of no renewed extensions. For details about the case up to this point, you can read my post from last week, and for more on the deal he reached, click here for HaAretz’s story. I would also highly recommend that you read this excellent piece by Israeli national treasure Gidon Levy, in which he interviewed Adnan’s wife.

I don’t know what to think about it all, really. Adnan is still being held without charge, which is still illegal and flies in the face of both due process and the most basic notion of human rights — and he’s not alone: Click here for more on administrative detention and the 309 Palestinians held under its provisions (the highest number of administrative detainees since October 2009, and one of them has been thus held for five years). I have to wonder if the survival instinct, and possibly a desire to see his children again, kicked in. Or if maybe there’s more to the deal than we’ve heard. Or both.

At any rate, I’m glad that Israel/Palestine is not being plunged into violence this week. I confess to not being overjoyed, because I can’t help but feel that it’s just a matter of time before something sparks insanity, but maybe that’s just me being sick and tired of being an Israeli. I am surely glad that Adnan is alive, and that more blood isn’t being spilled right now.

Shorter Indiana Rep. Bob Morris (R-Dipshit): Girl Scouts Turn Girls into Whores and Lesbians

First they came for the thin mints…

This is preposterous:

INDIANAPOLIS – A Fort Wayne lawmaker’s rant against the Girl Scouts went viral Monday after he called them a “radicalized organization” that supports abortion and promotes “homosexual lifestyles.

Rep. Bob Morris, R-Fort Wayne, sent a letter to Indiana House Republicans on Saturday explaining why he was the only member in the chamber not to sign onto a resolution last week celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts. Continue reading

Am I “Awake” or Am I Just Dreaming?

I don’t watch any TV series for a variety of reasons.  If I turn on my TV, I’m either watching sports or cooking shows.  However, I read about a show that piqued my interest because 1) Jason Isaacs stars.  He’s hawt and talented and did I mention hawt? and 2) the premise sounded intriguing.

Jason Isaacs plays a detective who crashes his car with both his wife and his son in it.  He lives in two realities – one in which his wife survives the crash while his son dies and one in which his son survives the crash while his wife dies. The way it works is that each time he goes to sleep, he wakes up in the alternate reality. Since I have very realistic dreams and a shitty time sleeping, the premise immediately appealed to me.

The show is called Awake, and it’s on NBC.  They released the entire pilot episode, and I watched with a great deal of  trepidation.  As I said, I don’t watch much TV, and I was so hoping this show would be excellent, while at the same time, I feared it would suck.

Weekly Round-Up (2/12 – 2/19): Tiny Vagina Governments Edition

Once again, my round-up is a day late (but hopefully not a dollar short.)  I blame Allan Brauer.  He insisted that I not blog yesterday.  (So not true.)

Anyway, here’s a bunch of stuff you may have missed last week. The long and short of it is: The GOP is trying to set up shop in your uterus — still.

I don’t know what makes Republicans think women want a tiny government in their vaginae.  The Uterati is not amused.

And with that impossibly short introduction, here are your top twelve popular posts from last week:
